Announcing Elemental Accelerator 2.2 for Mac

Apple logoToday, Elemental announced the release of Elemental Accelerator 2.2 for Mac, a major update to its GPU-accelerated video processing plug-in for Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS4. With release 2.2, Elemental Accelerator provides CS4 users on the Mac significantly faster transcode speeds through support for GPU-accelerated H.264 and MPEG-2 video decoding, processing and encoding. This release offers the same easy integration with Adobe Premiere® Pro® CS4 as Elemental Accelerator for Windows, while offering 2X-4X performance improvements and time savings over CPU-only encoding solutions.

While we have become desensitized to frequent change and rapid innovation in technology, one 40-year-old trend we’ve also grown accustomed to -- some might say taken for granted -- is hitting a wall: ever-increasing CPU clock rates. To get around this, hardware companies like Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA are putting more cores on every chip -- but to take advantage of all these cores, the industry must solve significant parallel programming problems. Elemental’s solution to this challenge has been to hire engineers who fundamentally understand the underlying parallel hardware architectures of the chips they are programming.

Elemental Server Changes the Game

It's been awhile since I posted (I'm clearly the worst blogger around, very embarrassing considering that Portland is a leader in social media!), but Elemental has made huge strides in the past few months that I'm excited to share.

  • The biggest news is that our Elemental Server product has moved into the beta phase with several online video platform and broadcast customers. Elemental Server is a game-changing product for enterprise customers that have to deal with large volumes of video. In the past, these customers had to create just a few renditions of their content; today, they have to figure out how to get video formatted for the myriad of playback devices and distribution systems that consumers demand. Elemental's GPU-powered Server product dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of creating all these streams.
